The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 We verily have created man in an atmosphere: 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 Yet he has not assaulted the steep; 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
