The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra. These are the verses of the Book, and a Qur'an luminous. 1 Soon will the time come when the unbelievers will wish they were Muslims. 2 Let them eat and enjoy life, and let (false) hope beguile them. They will come to know! 3 And We have not destroyed a town but there was therefor a decree known. 4 [but remember that] no community can ever forestall [the end of] its term - and neither can they delay [it]. 5 They say: "O you to whom the Admonition has been revealed, you are surely crazed. 6 Why do you not bring down the angels upon us, if you are truthful?" 7 [Yet] We never send down angels otherwise than in accordance with the [demands of] truth; and [were the angels to appear now,] lo! they [who reject this divine writ] would have no further respite! 8 Surely We have revealed the Reminder and We will most surely be its guardian. 9 We have sent forth before you Messengers among the factions of the ancients. 10 and not a single Messenger came to them, but they mocked at him; 11 Even so we make a way for it in the hearts of the culprits. 12 So, they will not believe in it: The example of former people is there. 13 If We were even to open for them a way to the heavens, and they could continually climb up to it in broad daylight, 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
