Al-Shams

The Sun (Al-Shams)

15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

By the sun and its rising brightness 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 and by the day as it displays the sun's glory, 3 and the night as it veils it darkly! 4 and by the sky and by Him Who made it; 5 And by oath of the earth and by oath of Him Who spread it. 6 The soul and how it was integrated 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 prosperous is he who purified it, 9 and truly lost is he who buries it [in darkness]. 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 Then they belied him and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
