۞ Gather together those who were unjust and their associates, and what they used to worship 22 instead of God, and lead them all onto the way to the blazing fire, 23 And halt them, to be questioned: 24 'But what is the matter with you that you cannot help one another?,'" 25 Indeed, today they are surrendering themselves completely.” 26 They will then turn towards each other (and start wrangling). 27 These say, 'Why, you of old would come to us from the right hand.' 28 They will say: “Nay, you yourselves were not the ones who would believe. 29 And we had no authority over you, but you were an inordinate people; 30 Now the Word of our Lord hath been fulfilled concerning us. Lo! we are about to taste (the doom). 31 So we led you astray, for we ourselves were erring. 32 So verily on that Day they all in the torment will be sharers. 33 that is how We deal with evil-doers. 34 They were those who, when it was said to them, "There is no god but God," behaved with insolence, 35 and would say: "Shall we, then, give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 Nay, but he brought the Truth, and he confirmed those sent (before him). 37 (They will be told): “You shall taste the grievous chastisement. 38 but you shall not be recompensed except for what you were doing. 39 But the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah,- 40 Those will have a provision determined - 41 Fruits. And they will be honoured 42 In Gardens of Delight. 43 sitting face to face upon couches, 44 A cup from a gushing spring is brought round for them, 45 White and delicious to the drinkers; 46 No headiness there shall be therein, nor shall they be therewith inebriated. 47 And with them shall be damsels of refraining looks, large-eyed 48 As if they were eggs carefully protected. 49 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 50 Said one of the speakers: "I had a friend 51 'Do you believe in the Day of Judgment? 52 "(That) when we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed (be raised up) to receive reward or punishment (according to our deeds)?" 53 He said (to others on the thrones), “Will you take a glimpse (into hell) below?” 54 Then he looks, and sees him in the midst of Hell. 55 He says, 'By God, wellnigh thou didst destroy me; 56 “And were it not for the munificence of my Lord, I too would have been seized and brought forth (captive)!” 57 But then, [O my friends in paradise,] is it [really] so that we are not to die 58 except for our first death, and are we not chastised? 59 Truly, this is a great victory!" 60 For the like of this let the workers [on earth] work. 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 We have indeed made that a punishment for the unjust. 63 Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell. 64 Its spathes are like the prickly pear. 65 And lo! they verily must eat thereof, and fill (their) bellies therewith. 66 then in addition to it they shall have a draught of boiling water to drink; 67 Then thereafter, verily, their return is to the flaming fire of Hell. 68 Truly they found their fathers on the wrong Path; 69 So they (too) made haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 Thus, indeed, most of the people of old went astray before them, 71 And verily We sent among them warners. 72 Observe, then, what was the end of those that had been warned, 73 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 74
