Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And thou art an indweller of this city - 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And shown him the two highways? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 14 An orphan near of kin, 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
