He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 To him you attend; 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 You neglect. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 How We pour water in showers 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 olives, dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
