The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 so fear God and obey me. 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 "Will you be left secure in that which you have here? 146 In gardens and fountains, 147 And green crops (fields etc.) and date-palms with soft spadix. 148 And you hew houses out of the mountains exultingly; 149 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me; 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They said: thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 He said: yonder is a she-camel; to her a drink, and to you a drink, each on a day known. 155 And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day. 156 But they hamstrung her; and on the morrow were repentant, 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
