Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 And the ten nights, 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
