The great ones among Pharaoh's people said: "Verily, this is indeed a sorcerer of great knowledge, 109 "He wants to get you out of your land, so what do you advise?" 110 They said: put him and his brother off, and send unto the cities callers. 111 to bring thee every cunning sorcerer.' 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said: "Is there reward for us if we succeed?" 113 Pharaoh replied, "Certainly, and you shall also become my courtiers." 114 They said: O Moses! Either throw (first) or let us be the first throwers? 115 He said, 'You cast.' And when they cast they put a Spell upon the people's eyes, and called forth fear of them, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 Then We revealed to Moses: 'Now, throw down your staff' And thereupon it swallowed up their false invention. 117 ۞ whereupon the truth was established, and vain was proved all that they had been doing. 118 they were defeated and turned belittled, 119 The sorcerers fell to the ground in homage, 120 [and] exclaiming: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of all the worlds, 121 the Sustainer of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Pharaoh said: Ye believe in Him before I give you leave! Lo! this is the plot that ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive its people hence. But ye shall come to know! 123 "Be sure I will cut off your hands and your feet on apposite sides, and I will cause you all to die on the cross." 124 They answered: "We have (in any case) to go back to our Lord. 125 You only take revenge on us because we believed in the Lord when we saw His miracles. Lord, grant us patience and let us die Muslims (submitted to God)." 126
