Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
HaMeem 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 The command that We have been sending 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 There is no worship except for Him – He gives life and causes death; your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, but they [who lack inner certainty] are but dying with their doubts. 9 So wait thou the day whereon the heaven will bring forth a manifest smoke: 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 How can a warning benefit them? The Apostle who explained all things clearly had come to them, 13 Whereas they had then turned away from him and said, “He is a madman, tutored!”? 14 We now remove the punishment for some days – so you will again commit the same. 15 One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 And lo! I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me to death. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 (Cross and) leave the sea undisturbed. The (pursuing) hosts will surely be drowned," 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
