Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Ha Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 an order from Us. We are ever sending. 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if only you would have strong faith. 7 There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! 16 ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, 17 (saying:) 'Be obedient to me O worshipers of Allah. I am your honest Messenger. 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 And verily I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me. 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 (Cross and) leave the sea undisturbed. The (pursuing) hosts will surely be drowned," 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And cornfields and goodly positions. 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Thus it was. And [then] We made another people heirs [to what they had left,] 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not over them, nor were they respited. 29
