He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 To him you give attention. 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Dust shall cover them 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
