He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And he feareth 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
