The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 Who will be honoured 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 and made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
