The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the sun and its noon-time brightness, 1 And the moon when she followeth him, 2 The day when it reveals his radiance, 3 and by the night when it enshrouds him! 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 And [by] the earth and He who spread it 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 And inspired it with the wickedness thereof and the piety thereof, 8 He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow, 9 And indeed failed is the one who covered it in sin. 10 The people of Thamud rejected (the truth) as a result of their rebelliousness 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they rejected his statement as a lie and hamstrung the she-camel. For that crime their Lord rumbled down upon them, utterly razing them to the ground. 14 and He fears not the issue thereof. 15
