The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the sky has split [open] 1 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 2 And when the earth shall be stretched forth. 3 And it unburdens itself of all that is in it, and becomes empty. 4 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should. 5 Human being, you strive hard to get closer to your Lord, and so you will certainly receive the recompense (of your deeds). 6 Then as to him who shall be given his book in his right hand 7 will be easy, 8 And he will return to his family rejoicing. 9 But he who is given the Record behind his back, 10 Soon will he cry for perdition, 11 And he will enter a Blazing Fire. 12 He used to live joyfully among his people, 13 Never thinking he will return. 14 Yea! surely his Lord does ever see him. 15 So I do call to witness the ruddy glow of Sunset; 16 and by the night and what it enfolds, 17 And by the moon when she is at the full, 18 Surely ye shall ride layer upon layer. 19 But what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 and when the Koran is recited to them that they do not prostrate! ۩ 21 In fact the unbelievers disavow. 22 and God knows very well what they are secreting. 23 So give them news of painful punishment, 24 Except those who believe and do good; for them is a reward that shall never be cut off. 25
