a large throng from the ancients, 39 and a good many of later times. 40 BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil? 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 For, behold, in times gone by they were wont to abandon themselves wholly to the pursuit of pleasures, 45 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 And also our forefathers? 48 Say, "Indeed, the earlier ones and the later ones 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 Will be eating from trees of zaqqum 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 and on top of this you will drink boiling water 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 We! it is We Who created you: wherefore confess ye not? 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated 60 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 See ye the Fire which ye kindle? 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We have made it a reminder and an advantage for the wayfarers of the desert. 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
