The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 arise, and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And pollution shun. 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
