Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 and shown him the two highways [of good and evil]? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 Of a related orphan, 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
