The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 that We have created the human being to face a great deal of hardship. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! 6 Does he, then, think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 a tongue, and two lips? 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 But he has not broken through the difficult pass. 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 to an orphaned relative 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
