A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 This is a Book sent down toward thee, so let there be no straitness in thy breast therefor, that thou mayest warn thereby! and this is an admonition unto the believers. 2 Follow what has been revealed to you from your Lord and do not follow guardians besides Him, how little do you mind. 3 And many a township did We destroy – so Our punishment came to them at night or while they were sleeping at noon. 4 When (thus) Our punishment took them, no cry did they utter but this: "Indeed we did wrong." 5 Then shall we question those to whom Our message was sent and those by whom We sent it. 6 Then We shall narrate to them with knowledge the whole account. For surely, We were not away from them. 7 And true will be the weighing on that Day; and those whose weight [of good deeds] is heavy in the balance - it is they, they who shall attain to a happy state; 8 And those whose (deeds) are lighter in the scale shall perish for violating Our signs. 9 We have made you inhabit the land and provided you with the means of sustenance. Only a few of you give thanks. 10
