The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Mount Sinai, 1 By the book inscribed. 2 In an outstretched fine parchment, 3 And the House frequented, 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass, 7 there is none to avert it. 8 On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, 9 And the mountains will pass on, departing - 10 Then woe that day unto the deniers 11 Those who are playing in pursuits. 12 The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. 13 'This is the fire that you cried lies to! 14 Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? 15 “Enter it – now whether you patiently bear it or are impatient – it is the same for you; for you is a recompense only for what you used to do.” 16 Truly, the God-fearing will dwell [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. 22 They shall pass therein from one to another a cup wherein there shall be nothing vain nor any sin. 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 They say, 'We were before among our people, ever going in fear, 26 "But Allah has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of the Fire. 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28
