The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 and banana trees, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
