Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Dawn, 1 and ten nights, 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of AlMiskin (the poor)! 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 Most certainly - when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 Enter then My garden." 30
