And the Thamud belied the warnings. 23 So they said, “What! Shall we follow a man from among us? If we do, we are indeed astray, and insane!” 24 "Is it that the Message is sent to him, of all people amongst us? Nay, he is a liar, an insolent one!" 25 (We told Salih), "Tomorrow they will know who is the most arrogant liar. 26 Indeed, We are sending the she-camel as trial for them, so watch them and be patient. 27 Tell them that each one of them has the right to have a certain share of water". 28 But they called to their companion, and he took a sword in hand, and hamstrung (her). 29 So how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 30 Then We sent a single blast against them and they became like dry stubble which has been trampled upon. 31 And indeed, We have made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 32 The people of Lot rejected Our warning. 33 and behold, We let loose upon them a tempest which rained stones upon them, except upon Lot's household whom We rescued in the last hours of the night 34 As a favour from Us. That is how We reward the grateful. 35 Surely Lot warned his people that We shall seize them (with Our chastisement), but they doubted the warnings. 36 Even his guests they had solicited of him; so We obliterated their eyes, saying, 'Taste now My chastisement and My warnings!' 37 And in truth the punishment decreed befell them early in the morning. 38 "Taste, then, the suffering which I inflict when My warnings are disregarded!" 39 Surely We have made this Qur'an easy as a reminder. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 40
