The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 Do you build monuments on every high place in vanity, 128 And do you take to yourselves underground reservoirs, in order to live for ever! 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 And gardens and fountains; 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 And we shall not be doomed. 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 And verily thy Lord? He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
