We created mankind from clay, molded from mud, 26 And the jinn We created before from scorching fire. 27 And recall what time thy Lord said unto the angels: verily I am about to create a man from ringing clay of loam moulded. 28 When I have formed him and breathed My spirit into him, fall down in prostration before him," 29 So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely, 30 But Iblis did not; he refused to be with the prostrates. 31 Allah said: O Iblis! what aileth thou that thou art not with the prostrates? 32 [Iblis] replied: "It is not for me to prostrate myself before mortal man whom Thou hast created out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted!" 33 He said: Then get out of it, for surely you are driven away: 34 And verily on thee shall be the curse till the Day of Requital. 35 (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! give me then respite till the Day the (dead) are raised." 36 Allah said: verily then thou art of the respited: 37 “Till the Day of a well-known time.” 38 He said: My Lord! because Thou hast made life evil to me, I will certainly make (evil) fair-seeming to them on earth, and I will certainly cause them all to deviate 39 Except Thy servants from among them, the devoted ones. 40 (Allah) said: "This is the Way which will lead straight to Me." 41 “Indeed you do not have any power over My bondmen, except those wanderers who follow you.” (The devil is unsuccessful in tempting Allah’s chosen bondmen to commit sin.) 42 And indeed hell is the promise for all of them. 43 Which has several gates, and each gate is marked for every section of them." 44
