The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. Those are the signs of the Book and of a manifest Koran. 1 Oft times would those who disbelieve fain that they had been Muslims. 2 Let them eat and enjoy; and let their hopes deceive them, soon they shall know. 3 And We destroyed no township but there was a known decree for it. 4 no people can forestall their doom, nor can they delay it. 5 And yet, they [who deny the truth] say: "O thou unto whom this reminder has [allegedly] been bestowed from on high: verily, thou art mad! 6 If you are a man of truth, why can't you bring the angels to us?" 7 But We send down the angels only to bring justice and then they will not be reprieved. 8 We Ourselves have revealed the Quran and We are its Protectors. 9 We had also sent apostles to people of earlier persuasions. 10 And whenever a Messenger came to them, they never failed to mock him. 11 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals. 12 That they should not believe in the (Message); but the ways of the ancients have passed away. 13 And if We open for them a gate in the heavens, to ascend it through the day – 14 they would have said, "Our eyes are bewildered and we have been affected by magic." 15
