He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
