[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: fear ye not? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 127 "Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them? 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 When you lay hands upon anyone, you do so as tyrants. 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 He has given you flocks and sons, 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 "Verily, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether you preach or be not of those who preach. 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!" 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
