A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam). 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 41 (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water, 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 and persisted in the Great Sin, 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: 'The ancients, and the later folk 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 And fill (your) bellies with it; 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 "Verily, we are ruined! 66 Aye! we are deprived! 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it ye who grow the tree which feeds the fire, or do We grow it? 72 It is We who have made it a means to remind [you of Us,] and a comfort for all who are lost and hungry in the wilderness [of their lives]. 73 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
