If affliction befalls you, it is what your own hands have earned, but He pardons a lot. 30 And you will not cause failure [to Allah] upon the earth. And you have not besides Allah any protector or helper. 31 Ships sailing in the ocean like ensigns are a sign of His. 32 if He will, He calms the wind so that they remain motionless upon its back, surely, there are signs in this for every thankful, patient (person). 33 He may, while forgiving much of the sins of those that ride these ships, drown them on account of some of their misdeeds. 34 and that those who dispute concerning Our signs may know they have no asylum. 35 So whatsoever things are vouchsafed unto you are but a passing enjoyment for the life of the world, and that which is with Allah, better and more lasting, is for those who believe and in their Lord put their trust. 36 And (for) those who avoid cardinal sins and indecencies, and forgive (even) when they are angry. 37 Who obey the commands of their Lord and fulfil their devotional obligations, whose affairs are settled by mutual consultation, who spend of what We have given them, 38 And those who, when an oppressive wrong is inflicted on them, (are not cowed but) help and defend themselves. 39 The guerdon of an ill-deed is an ill the like thereof. But whosoever pardoneth and amendeth, his wage is the affair of Allah. Lo! He loveth not wrong-doers. 40 And whoso defendeth himself after he hath suffered wrong - for such, there is no way (of blame) against them. 41 blame falls only on those who wrong men and transgress on this earth without justification, such will have a painful punishment, 42 And whoever is patient and forgiving, these most surely are actions due to courage. 43
