The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 near which is Paradise. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 And Manat the other third? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
