In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enwrapped! 1 Stand (to pray) all night, except a little. 2 Half of it, or a little less than that, 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message. 5 Verily, the rising by night (for Tahajjud prayer) is very hard and most potent and good for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allah). 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 Remember the Name of your Lord and dedicate yourself devoutly to Him. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god except Him. Take Him for your Guardian. 9 Bear with patience what they say, and gracefully come away from them. 10 Leave to Me those who belie, those who lead a life of pleasure, and bear with them yet a little while. 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 and a food that chokes, and a grievous chastisement. 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 Surely this is a reminder, then let him, who will take the way to his Lord. 19
