Noah (Nooh)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
We sent Noah forth to his people, saying, "Warn your people before there comes upon them a grievous punishment." 1 He said: O my people! Lo! I am a plain warner unto you 2 That you should serve Allah and be careful of (your duty to) Him and obey me: 3 Allah will forgive you of your sins and delay you for a specified term. Indeed, the time [set by] Allah, when it comes, will not be delayed, if you only knew.' " 4 He said, “My Lord! I invited my people night and day.” 5 but my pleas have only increased their aversion. 6 And whenever I called them, that Thou mightest forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears, and wrapped them in their garments, and persisted, and waxed very proud. 7 Then I invited them publicly. 8 and spoke to them in public and in private." 9 "Saying, 'Ask forgiveness from your Lord; for He is Oft-Forgiving; 10 He will let loose the sky for you in plenteous rain, 11 and will aid you with worldly goods and children, and will bestow upon you gardens, and bestow upon you running waters. 12 What is the matter with you that you deny the greatness of God, 13 He has created you by stages! 14 Do you not consider how Allah has created seven heavens in layers 15 and has set up within them the moon as a light [reflected] and set up the sun as a [radiant] lamp? 16 And Allah has brought you forth from the (dust of) earth. [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 29, Page 97]. 17 and He will later cause you to return to it and will then again bring you out of it. 18 And God has laid the earth for you as a carpet, 19 That you may follow therein roads of passage.'
