The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 And when they see a sign, they turn away and say, “Just a customary magic!” 2 They deny the truth and follow their own whims, every matter has its appointed time, 3 They have certainly received the kind of news in which there is a lesson and strong words of wisdom, 4 Wisdom consummate. But warnings avail not. 5 So leave them, [O Muhammad]. The Day the Caller calls to something forbidding, 6 with down-cast eyes they shall go forth from their graves, as though they were scattered locusts. 7 hastening towards the Crier. Those who deny the truth will cry, "This is such a hard day!" 8 ۞ Before them the people of Nuh rejected, so they rejected Our servant and called (him) mad, and he was driven away. 9 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” 10 So We opened the gates of heaven with water pouring forth. 11 and We caused the earth to burst with gushing springs: so that the waters met for a purpose which had been decreed. 12 But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre: 13 Moving forward under Our eyes: a requital for him who had been rejected. 14 And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? 15 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 16 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 17 The people of 'Ad too rejected the truth. How terrible was My punishment and My warning. 18 Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, 19 it swept the people away as though they were palm-trunks uprooted: 20 Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 21 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 22
