We initiated your creation, then We gave you each a shape, and then We said to the angels: 'Prostrate before Adam.' They all prostrated except Iblis: he was not one of those who fell prostrate. 11 He (Allah) asked: 'What prevented you to prostrate, when I commanded you' 'I am better than he' he replied. 'You created me of fire and You created him of clay' 12 He said: Then go down hence! It is not for thee to show pride here, so go forth! Lo! thou art of those degraded. 13 He said: respite me till the Day they shall be raised up. 14 Said Allah, “You are given respite.” 15 He said: As Thou hast caused me to remain disappointed I will certainly lie in wait for them in Thy straight path. 16 Then surely I will come upon them from before them and from behind them and from their right and from their left, and Thou shalt not find the most of them thankful. 17 He said, "Get out of here, despised, and rejected! I shall fill Hell with all of those who follow you." 18 "And O Adam! Dwell you and your wife in Paradise, and eat thereof as you both wish, but approach not this tree otherwise you both will be of the Zalimun (unjust and wrong-doers)." 19 Then Satan whispered to them, to reveal to them that which was hidden from them of their shameful parts. He said, 'Your Lord has only prohibited you from this tree lest you become angels, or lest you become immortals.' 20 Then he said to them on oath: "I am your sincere friend;" 21 Thus did he lead them on with guile. And when they tasted of the tree their shame was manifest to them and they began to hide (by heaping) on themselves some of the leaves of the Garden. And their Lord called them, (saying): Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you: Lo! Satan is an open enemy to you? 22 They replied, "Lord, we have done injustice to our souls. If You will not forgive us and have mercy on us, we shall certainly have incurred a great loss." 23 He said, “Go down, one of you is a foe unto the other; and for a fixed time you shall stay on earth and feed in it.” 24 He continued: 'You shall live there, and there shall you die, and from it you shall be raised to life.' 25
