To the Thamud people (We sent) Salih, one of their own brethren: He said: "O my people! worship Allah: ye have no other god but Him. Now hath come unto you a clear (Sign) from your Lord! This she-camel of Allah is a Sign unto you: So leave her to graze in Allah's earth, and let her come to no harm, or ye shall be seized with a grievous punishment. 73 Remember, how you were made leaders after the people of 'Ad, and were settled on the land so that you could construct on the plains palaces, and carve dwellings out of mountains. So think of the favours of God, and do not act with corruption in the land." 74 The great ones among his people, who gloried in their arrogance towards all who were deemed weak, said unto the believers among them: "Do you [really] know that salih has been sent by his Sustainer?" They answered: "Verily, we believe in the message which he bears." 75 The arrogant leaders said, "We reject what you believe in." 76 So they hamstrung the she-camel and rebelled against the command of their Lord and said, “O Saleh! Bring upon us what you promise us, if you are a Noble Messenger.” 77 Whereupon an earthquake seized them, so that they lay prone in their dwellings. 78 He turned from them, saying: 'I conveyed to you, my nation the Message of my Lord and gave you counsel; but you had no love for sincere advisers' 79 And (We sent) Lut when he said to his people: What! do you commit an indecency which any one in the world has not done before you? 80 See, you approach men lustfully instead of women; no, you are a people that do exceed.' 81 His people had no answer to his remarks but to tell one another, "Expel him from our town; he and his people want to purify themselves." 82 Then We saved him and his family, except his wife; she was of those who remained behind (in the torment). 83 And We rained a shower (of stones) upon them; therefore see what sort of fate befell the culprits! 84
