The chiefs of the people of Fir'awn said: verily this is a magician knowing. 109 who desires to expel you from your land; what do you command?' 110 They said: put him and his brother off, and send unto the cities callers. 111 to summon every wellversed sorcerer to you' 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said, "We must have our reward if we are to gain a victory over him (Moses)". 113 He said: yea! and verily ye shall be of those brought nigh. 114 They said, “O Moosa! You may throw first – or shall we be the first to throw?” 115 He said: Cast. So when they cast, they deceived the people's eyes and frightened them, and they produced a mighty enchantment. 116 And we revealed unto Musa: cast down thy rod. And lo! it was swallowing up that which they had feigned. 117 ۞ Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect. 118 And Pharaoh and his people were overcome right there and became debased. 119 And the wizards fell down prostrate, 120 They said, "We have believed in the Lord of the worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Pharaoh said: Ye believe in Him before I give you leave! Lo! this is the plot that ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive its people hence. But ye shall come to know! 123 Surely I shall have your hands and feet cut off upon alternate sides. Then I shall crucify you every one. 124 They answered: "We have (in any case) to go back to our Lord. 125 You would punish us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they were shown to us. Our Lord, pour patience upon us, and cause us to die in a state of submission to You." 126
