The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
