And recite unto them the story of Ibrahim. 69 When he said unto his father and his folk: What worship ye? 70 They said, "We worship idols and remain to them devoted." 71 He said: Do they hear you when ye cry? 72 Or do they benefit you, or do they harm?" 73 They said, "But we found our fathers doing thus." 74 He said, 'And have you considered what you have been serving, 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 They are enemies to me except the Lord of all the Worlds 77 "Who created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 "Who gives me food and drink, 79 and, whenever I am sick, heals me, 80 "Who will cause me to die, and then to life (again); 81 And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense." 82 My Lord, give me Judgment, and join me with the righteous, 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss 85 Forgive my father. He has gone astray. 86 Do not betray me 87 the Day on which neither wealth will be of any use, nor children, 88 Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 whereas the blazing fire will be laid open before those who had been lost in grievous error; 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 beside Allah? Can they be of any help to you, or even be of any help to themselves?" 93 Then they shall be hurled therein, they and the seduced ones. 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 "They will say there in their mutual bickerings: 96 "By Allah, we were indeed in manifest error 97 when we assigned to you a position equal to that of the Lord of the Universe. 98 It was naught but the sinners that led us astray; 99 and we have no intercessors now, 100 and no sincere friend. 101 Would that we might return again, and be among the believers' 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 And verily, your Lord! He is truly the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 104
