The great ones among Pharaoh's people said: "Verily, this is indeed a sorcerer of great knowledge, 109 who seeks to drive you from your land what do you command' 110 They said, 'Put him and his brother off a while, and send among the cities musterers, 111 to summon every wellversed sorcerer to you' 112 And so the sorcerers came to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). They said: "Indeed there will be a (good) reward for us if we are the victors." 113 He said: "Yea, (and more),- for ye shall in that case be (raised to posts) nearest (to my person)." 114 They said: "O Moses! Either thou shalt throw [thy staff first,] or we shall [be the first to] throw." 115 He said, “You throw”; when they threw, they cast a magic spell upon the people’s eyes and terrified them, and they brought a great magic. 116 We said to Moses: "Throw down your staff;" and it swallowed up their conjurations in no time. 117 ۞ Thus was the Truth vindicated and that which they were doing was made vain. 118 They were therefore defeated here and they turned back humiliated. 119 And the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 120 And said: "We have come to believe in the Lord of all the worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron' 122 But Pharaoh said: "You have come to accept belief in Him without my permission! This surely is a plot you have hatched to expel the people from the land. You will soon come to know. 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They replied: 'We shall surely return to our Lord. 125 You would take revenge on us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Lord, pour patience upon us and let us die as submitters (Muslims)' 126
