The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said, "This is most surely a skillful magician, 109 "He wishes to drive you away from the land. So what do you advise?" 110 Others said: 'Put them off a while, he and his brother, and send forth to your cities gatherers 111 to summon every skilful magician to your presence.' 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh. They said, "Indeed for us is a reward if we are the predominant." 113 He said: Yes, and you shall certainly be of those who are near (to me). 114 They said: 'Moses, will you throw first or shall we be the throwers' 115 He said, "Throw," and when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them, and they presented a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We inspired Musa (Moses) (saying): "Throw your stick," and behold! It swallowed up straight away all the falsehoods which they showed. 117 ۞ So the truth was established, and what they did became null. 118 So they were defeated there and then, and were returned disgraced. 119 And the magicians flung themselves prostrate. 120 [and] exclaiming: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of all the worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Said Pharaoh, 'You have believed in Him before I gave you leave. Surely this is a device you have devised in the city that you may expel its people from it. Now you shall know! 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They answered: "Verily, unto our Sustainer do we turn 125 And what is it for which thou takest vengeance on us save that we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came unto us? Our Lord! pour out upon us perseverance and cause us to die as Muslims. 126
