Said the eminent among the people of Pharaoh, "Indeed, this is a learned magician 109 “He wishes to expel you all from your kingdom; so what do you advise?” 110 They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while); and send to the cities men to collect- 111 who shall bring before thee every sorcerer of great knowledge." 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said: "Is there reward for us if we succeed?" 113 He said: "Yes, and moreover you will (in that case) be of the nearest (to me)." 114 They said, "Moses, will you first throw, or shall we?" 115 He said, 'You cast.' And when they cast they put a Spell upon the people's eyes, and called forth fear of them, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 And We revealed to Moses: 'Cast thy staff!' And lo, it forthwith swallowed up their lying invention. 117 ۞ Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect. 118 Thus were they there defeated and brought low. 119 But the sorcerers fell down prostrate in adoration. 120 saying, "We declare our belief in the Lord of the Universe, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron' 122 Pharaoh said: Ye believe in Him before I give you leave! Lo! this is the plot that ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive its people hence. But ye shall come to know! 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on alternate sides and then crucify you all!" 124 They said, "Indeed, to our Lord we will return. 125 for thou takest vengeance on us only because we have come to believe in our Sustainer's messages as soon as they came to us. O our Sustainer! Shower us with patience in adversity, and make us die as men who have surrendered themselves unto Thee!" 126
