۞ He it is who created you from a single soul, and He created therefrom his spouse that he might find repose in her. Then when he covereth her she beareth a light burthen and fareth about therewith; then when she groweth heavy the twain call upon Allah their Lord: if Thou vouchsafest us a goodly child, we shall surely be of the thankful. 189 But when He gives them a good one, they set up with Him associates in what He has given them; but high is Allah above what they associate (with Him). 190 Do they associate with Him those who create nothing and they are [themselves] created? 191 And cannot give them help, nor can they help themselves? 192 If you call them to guidance, they will not follow you. It is the same whether you call them or you are silent. 193 Verily those whom ye call upon besides Allah are servants like unto you: Call upon them, and let them listen to your prayer, if ye are (indeed) truthful! 194 Have they feet on which they can walk? Have they hands with which they can grasp? Have they eyes with which they can see? Have they ears with which they can hear? Say [O Muhammad]: 'Invoke all those to whom you ascribe a share in Allah's divinity, then scheme against me and grant me no respite. 195 “Indeed my Protector is Allah Who has sent down the Book; and He befriends the righteous.” 196 Those whom you invoke, other than Him, cannot help you, nor can they help themselves' 197 And if ye call them towards guidance they will not hear and thou wilt behold them looking at thee, but they see not. 198 Be tolerant; enjoin what is right; and avoid the ignorant. 199 And O listener! If the devil provokes you, seek the refuge of Allah; indeed He is All Hearing, All Knowing. 200 Verily those who fear God think of Him when assailed by the instigations of Satan, and lo! they begin to understand, 201 But their brethren (the evil ones) plunge them deeper into error, and never relax (their efforts). 202 And whenever thou bringest not unto them, as a sign, they say: wherefore hast not thou selected it? Say thou: I only follow that which hath been revealed unto me by my Lord. This is an enlightenment from your Lord and a guidance and a mercy unto a people who believe. 203 So, when the Quran is recited, listen to it, and be silent that you may receive mercy. [i.e. during the compulsory congregational prayers when the Imam (of a mosque) is leading the prayer (except Surat Al-Fatiha), and also when he is delivering the Friday-prayer Khutbah]. [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 9, Pages 162-4] 204 And remember your Lord within your hearts humbly and with fear, and softly with your tongues, morning and evening, and do not be of the neglectful. 205 Verily those who are with thy Lord are not stiff-necked against His worship, and they hallow, and unto Him they prostrate themselves. ۩ 206
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
End of Surah: A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf). Sent down in Mecca after S (Saad) before Jinns (Al-Jinn)
