The Spoils of War (Al-Anfaal)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ They (the believers) ask you (Muhammad) about the booty captured (from the enemies) during a war. Tell them, "It belongs to God and the Messenger. If you have faith, have fear of God. Settle the disputes among yourselves and obey God and His Messenger." 1 When God is mentioned, the true believers begin to feel fear of Him in their hearts and when His revelations are recited to them their faith strengthens. In God alone do they trust. 2 Those who keep the prayer established and spend in Our cause from what We have bestowed upon them. 3 These are the true Muslims; for them are ranks before their Lord, and forgiveness and an honourable sustenance. 4 A group among the believers dislike (God's decree about the booty captured in war) as well as His command that you come out of your home for a truthful purpose (to fight for justice). 5 They disputed with you about the truth after it had become clear, (and they went forth) as if they were being driven to death while they saw (it). 6 And recall what time Allah was promising you one of the two parties that it should be yours, and ye would fain that the one without arms was yours; whilst Allah besought to justify the truth by His words and to cut off the root of the infidels. 7 In order that He may prove the truth and disprove falsehood, even if the criminals get annoyed. 8 Remember when you prayed to your Lord for help, He heard you and said: "I shall send a thousand angels following behind you for your aid." 9 Allah only made it to be glad tidings and so that your hearts may be satisfied; victory comes only from Allah; He is Almighty, Wise. 10
