The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra; these are verses of the Book and the bright Qur’an. 1 It could be that those who disbelieve will wish that they were Muslims. 2 Leave them alone; let them eat and enjoy themselves the while the hope [of vain delights] beguiles them: for in time they will come to know [the truth]. 3 And never have We destroyed any community [for its wrongdoing] unless a divine writ had [previously] been made known to it; 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 And they said, “O you upon whom the Qur’an has been sent, you are indeed insane.” 6 "Why bringest thou not angels to us if it be that thou hast the Truth?" 7 We send not the angels down save with judgment, and then they would not be respited. 8 Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian. 9 And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples. 10 And never came there unto them a messenger but they did mock him. 11 even so We cause it to enter into the hearts of the sinners -- 12 So, they will not believe in it: The example of former people is there. 13 If We were even to open for them a way to the heavens, and they could continually climb up to it in broad daylight, 14 They would surely say: "Our eyes have been (as if) dazzled. Nay, we are a people bewitched." 15
