The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Ra. These are the verses of the Book and (of) a Quran that makes (things) clear. 1 It may be that those who disbelieve wish ardently that they were Muslims. 2 Leave them alone; let them eat and enjoy themselves the while the hope [of vain delights] beguiles them: for in time they will come to know [the truth]. 3 And never have We destroyed any community [for its wrongdoing] unless a divine writ had [previously] been made known to it; 4 No community precedeth the term thereof nor doth it fall behind. 5 And they say: O you to whom the Reminder has been revealed! you are most surely insane: 6 Why do you not bring down the angels upon us, if you are truthful?" 7 We send not down the angels, save with truth; 8 We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption). 9 Indeed, We sent Messengers before thee, among the factions of the ancients, 10 No Messenger went to them whom they did not mock. 11 This is how We cause the hearts of the guilty ones to behave. 12 So, they will not believe in it: The example of former people is there. 13 And if We opened upon them a door of the heaven, and they passed the day mounting thereto. 14 They would certainly say: Only our eyes have been covered over, rather we are an enchanted people. 15
