The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra'. These are the verses of the Book, and a Clear Qur'an. 1 Oft times would those who disbelieve fain that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them alone; let them eat and enjoy themselves the while the hope [of vain delights] beguiles them: for in time they will come to know [the truth]. 3 And never did We destroy a town but it had a term made known. 4 [but remember that] no community can ever forestall [the end of] its term - and neither can they delay [it]. 5 They say: 'Thou, upon whom the Remembrance is sent down, thou art assuredly possessed! 6 Why do you not bring down angels upon us if you are indeed truthful?" 7 We send not the angels down save with judgment, and then they would not be respited. 8 It is We who have sent down the Reminder and We will, most surely, safeguard it. 9 And certainly We sent (apostles) before you among the nations of yore. 10 And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him. 11 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals. 12 They believe not therein, though the example of the men of old hath gone before. 13 And if We open for them a gate in the heavens, to ascend it through the day – 14 They would only say: "Our eyes have been intoxicated: Nay, we have been bewitched by sorcery." 15
