The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 Oft times would those who disbelieve fain that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them thou to eat and to enjoy, and let vain hope divert them; presently they will know. 3 And We have not destroyed a town but there was therefor a decree known. 4 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 5 And they say: "O you (Muhammad SAW) to whom the Dhikr (the Quran) has been sent down! Verily, you are a mad man. 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us, if thou art of the truthful? 7 We do not send the angels but with truth, and then they would not be respited. 8 We Ourselves have revealed the Quran and We are its Protectors. 9 AND, INDEED, [O Prophet,] even before thy time did We send [Our apostles] unto communities of old 10 but there was never a messenger who came to them but they mocked him: 11 Even so we make a way for it in the hearts of the culprits. 12 They would not believe in it (the Quran), and already the example of (Allah's punishment of) the ancients (who disbelieved) has gone forth. 13 And even if We opened unto them a gate of heaven and they kept mounting through it, 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
